An Awesome Art Professor At My School

On September, 28th 2011 the art department at my school, Hartwick College, had one of the art professors do a presentation for the students. His name is Gary Mare , and he teaches painting. He gave us a chance to see what kinds of painting he has been doing for some years painting. And I must say they were pretty amazing to see. His style of painting images were that similar to that of the works by Pablo Picasso I thought. However his works were a lot more clean and fluent in color and what the images are.  The theme that most of his painting were going for were the idea of old myths and the great beyond. If you really look closely at some of Gary’s paintings you would notice a few added details in smaller areas. Such as a giant ocean that from far way it look like waves, but if you look closely you would notice some fish, whales, boats, sub marines, and other sea creatures that are in there. My two favorites are Odyssey, where it shows Homer tied on a boat and sailing the river stiks an there are spirits and god in the background. And my other favorite is Saint Subasgen where it is a giant that is being caught by thousands of branches, I a way it reminded me of the Iron Giant movie. This was a very well done presentation and his works were spectacular to look at and I am glad I had the chance to see his work with my own eyes.

Gurrilla Girl @ my School

This fall my college had a presentation by one of the members of the well known art protest group the Guerrilla Girls Jane Caufnmen. As she presented almost all of her and the other members work I was astonished by what they have made in the past. There were protest posters that were short and to the point of what they protest about. The one that my attention was a photograph of a police men pushing over a homeless person off a bench. The text on the post card said, Q. What’s the difference between a prisoner of war and a homeless person? A. under the Geneva convention, a prisoner of war is entitled to food, shelter and medical care. Another on that shocked me was the George Bush, “the Education President. “ this was during the time when President Bush was going to be the provider of education. The poster has tombstones shaped as crosses and each one of them has a graduation hats on them. These made me think of how messed they made their works so shocking and it was a good thing for them. If it shocks the viewer then it means the message that their trying to get across is working. The Guerrilla Girls were big feminist that protested about almost everything that seems wrong in not only our country, but the whole world. Their art work is still very well known and famous. I was really glad that she had the time to come to my school and show her work.

Behold Yall, ALEX ROSS.

One of my favorite comic book artist in the industry. May be the best of all time. his artistry is simply beautiful with the amoung of time and effort he puts in to them. When it come to comic books there are art works that look a little cartoonist, but when Alex Ross is drawing and painting he makes them look real. his work are similar to that of renaissance art but with more detail and color and guy and gals wearing tights. His three main works where he draws the whole comic are Marvels by  Kurt Busiek , Kingdom Come by Mark Waid, Justice By Jim Krueger, and Uncle Sam buy Steve Darnall. now aday he does covers and prints and movie posters and there still a delight to see. If you want to check out what other stuff the guy has done you can browse at his website @ http://www.alexrossart.com/index.asp
And i will eventually do a post of my top dozen (12) favorite pints by Alex Ross some time this month.

Cartoon Network is GOOD again!

That's right everyone I thing that Cartoon Network (the channel that I grew up with) this back to being good with original and interesting looking shows. There are three show that they have that really brings a spark in my heart that are funny, messed up, and have really cool animation. Here's the list...

Adventure Time
This cartoon has an interesting look to it of what seems to be an post apocalyptic aftermath world where there are candy people, vampires, rainacorns, and very weirder stuff. we follow the tale of Fin the human and Jake the dog with stretching powers go off to have righteous Adventures in the land of OOO. The art style seems to have a good fantasy element mixed with some cartoon style from a old newspaper comic. Either way the coloring just looks so right in this world and makes it look so smooth. The writing is funny, some characters like Finn would use a math term as a way to say awesome such as "Rumbas." Or they would say thing that you would expect form a group of friends just hanging out and there would be time where someones says something so messed up it funny. I like this show and it deserved to have been nominated for an Emmey.

Regular Show

This show is a little more down to earth  than most cartoon shows for kids. the main characters aren't kids that go to school there guys in their 20's that have a mediocre job at a town park. Tho there are time were at the end of an episode there would be an WTF moment due to something insignificant like a 100 in a row tie of rock, paper, scissors that cause a black hole to open that destroys everything unless the tie is broken. The art style is pretty modern which gives it that feel of a slice-of- life surrounding. they even get away with saying a few slang like Crap and Pissed off, and have a somewhat violent scene, and even uses actual 80's music like u hear on the radio. This show is perfect because it relates to my demographic then it does for there tragic audience.

The Amazing World of Gumball
This one is a mix of Regular Show slice-of-life atmosphere with the Adventure Time color and fantasy element. in a art perspective this is brilliant. What is is this a show set into a live-action background with characters that are each a different 2D and 3D animation. This is cool because kids are getting a dozen pieces of animation for the price of one. It really cool to see these animation interact with one another, which is what this show is intending to do. Have Gumball, the little blue cat-boy have an positive or negative interaction with another character that is completely different look form him. I like this show because it gets me into a personal level where...well... it reminds me of when i was 12-years-old with my best friend, meeting new people, going to school, and have a odd family that seems to work despite of how dis-functional they seem. Great new wave of animation and a look back on my childhood.

Toonami is coming BACK!

This is NOT a Cartoon Network official thing, This is A fan project made by a group of people that just got out of a high class graphic design school that will be on the internet live (i guess). Its still in the making but the design for Tom has been made. It doesn't look as high budget as it used to,but it really pleases me to know that real hard core Toonami fans gathered together and decided to bring it back by any miens necessary. they have the program up with ...
1.One Piece (Funimation version)
2. Dragon Ball (to Z than GT)
3. Spectacular Spider-Man
4. Power Puff Girls Z (yeah there's an Anime PPG)
5. Gurren Lagann
6. X-Men the animated series (from the 90's)
these guys are legit and are looking like that they are really committed to do this. personally it won't feel the same because it will not be on Cartoon Network, but Steve Blum the original Tom voice are in contact this these guys and is trying to talk to the CN guy in LA to see...well lets not get our hopes up just yet. So far these still working on the design for Sara the A.I. and the space ship. lets just see how they work it out the first few weeks and see what happens. if you want to know and learn more about this check out their sites @

AMV time. 1

Welcome to AMV Time a segment on the blog where I share with you all of the latest and interesting fan made Anime Music Videos on You Tube. This one is made by Team Four Star member hbi2k who has made many awesome AMVs in the past. This is the latest one he has made using C or D list animated movies and uses the song Roll out by Ludicrous. Its enjoyable, clever, and he seems to match the scenes well with the lyrics.

what you can do with stop motion animation

While studying the way of how Stop Motion Animation works and what one person can do with 10 picture frames or something ,a camera, and what ever you have in you basement. it works with toys because their little models that one can control. And with any toy you can make any story happen.
